Standards-based learning enables children to meet ever-increasing local, state, and federal requirements, and, equally important, it prepares students for the challenges of higher education, careers, and citizenship in the twenty-first century. Therefore, the Yonkers Public Schools incorporates standards-based learning as part of a comprehensive educational program that includes: learning initiatives throughout the grades, technology training, a dedicated magnet school, college articulation agreements and links, one elementary and one secondary International Baccalaureate School, and Smaller Learning Communities in the Middle and High Schools. As a result of such programs, English Language Arts and Mathematics test scores are steadily improving with more students attaining “above proficiency” status.

During the 2006-2007 school year, the Yonkers Public Schools will concentrate on student success and well-being. This is a truly exciting time for the District, a time when staff, parents, and related stakeholders are working together to ready students for an unlimited future. After all, the education of children is a sacred trust which demands no less.
